I wrote slash! I'm pleased with myself. I also just like the story.

I like a lot more of what I write these days; I feel like I'm able to set out to write a story, and then I write it, and it doesn't turn out perfectly but it's close enough. There is always room for improvement, I'm not saying there isn't, but I'm happy that I've gotten good enough to write things that I like.

This was also just a really fun story to write! If I'd been trying to write something that had a lot of canon support, I would have gotten too hung up on specifics, and plausibility, and whether I was seamlessly building off of the existing narrative in exactly the right way; with this, I'm working with two characters whose interactions are largely left implied, so I don't feel obligated to make it as absolutely, unswervingly integrated into canon as I would if it was something like Sam/Ruby. I was able to have fun with it and show all the steps necessary to get the characters together.

Kicking off the new year with music! Woo! I have here the condensed, canon-applicable only version of the hundred-track Supernatural playlist on my computer. (I free-associate with everything. The playlist for my novel is nearly as bad.) It goes roughly in chronological order, from the first season to the seventh. No cover, because I am cringe-worthily bad at Photoshop and badly done photoshop covers embarrass me vicariously.

it starts with rusted root and ends with everclear but basically everything else is indie or folk )

Notes: Send Me On My Way, Come On Home, and Wouldn't Mama Be Proud, I didn't think of these - I actually, I downloaded these fantastic playlists from here which were specific to seasons one and two, and these three songs, I incorporated into my mental playlist, so I added them here because they are perfect. I just wanted to cover my bases and make sure I'm crediting correctly.

Fandom: Supernatural/Pushing Daisies

Notes: So. Much. Fun. I narrated this in my head in Jim Dale's voice, and wrote this solely for the proposal scene.

I have a licorize account, but because of reasons, I'm making this into my bookmark page for Supernatural fanfics.

My attitude towards slash in general is this: I don't ship anyone with anyone in-universe, but I will love any story that convinces me of why a certain ship would work.

(There are exceptions, of course, but none in this fandom aside from Sam and Ruby, which the show managed to botch as per usual.)

CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP.

This is the pilot episode, which includes more of my Sam's-gender-identity headcanon. I now have an urge to rewrite the entire character arcs for seasons 1 and 2, because they were shit. I've decided that I mostly like this show because (a) monsters and angels and shit, (b) pretty people, and (c) the story that Kripke wants to tell is great and has a lot of potential. That potential is squandered in a mess of poorly done camera work (I usually don't even notice camera work, but it really is that bad) and clunky storytelling, and I stick around because I like the story enough, but I just want to, like, go back in time and have them give me some time with the scripts/camera crew to edit it. I am aces at editing, I'm much better at editing and remixing than I am at creating things from scratch.

It occurred to me that, among other things, Dean's fighting style as a traditionally-attractive female would have to be different; he'd have to either train a lot harder to acquire the same amount of upper-body strength, or fight differently, and either way, the character would still be smaller. With that in mind ... not so much straight-up punching as in the show (which I think is stupid, anyway); I figured that Deanna would do more redirecting, and using Sam's height against her (because my Samantha is still a moose. Just, again, less mass) as opposed to just whacking.

I had fun choreographing the hand-to-hand fight.

The thing about all of these mega-crossovers is that it then becomes glaringly obvious that everything revolves around straight white dudes. And, I don’t know, I like it when I can pretend that there are other important characters? Besides the ones who are already the heroes of their own stories?

Supernatural genderbend fic, featuring cisgirl Dean and mostly-cisgirl Sam. Mostly because I can easily see Sam as a woman, but I had a harder time with Dean until I realized that it's because he presents this stereotypical tough-dude facade, and how would that facade be different if he were a girl raised by a crappy mother instead of a crappy father? And then this happened and I didn't get to sleep for another two hours.

This is mostly a celebration of Dreamwidth having no word limit to its posts.

Tomorrow, I go on a quest to fix up all of the medical shit. That ought to involve revising a substantial percentage of this, but I've discovered Wikipedia, so this ought not to be as arduous as I was first expecting.

(Remember when I said "Just to be clear, there are no plans to write more than one or two scenes from this"? Ha ha, me neither.)

Like I said, I'm only doing the scenes I feel like doing - namely, the ones that depend on character interactions, rather than research. Because fuck research, I just want to see people bounce off of each other. So here are the fun parts from Act One. It's in script format, although without the indentation because that would take actual, you know, effort. It's easy enough to read anyway, I think.

The two shows are so similar, and I just read a Supernatural/Community crossover that did a really good job of balancing the two universes so that everyone was fully absorbed into the others' universe, and everything was wonderful and good. And then I ended up plotting out an episode of both which takes place at the same time. It's four pages of rambling right now, but I'm transcribing it into a more coherent format here. Except not right now. Because it's 12:30 and I'm going to sleep so that I can wake up at a normal-person hour.

(Just to be clear, there are no plans to write more than one or two scenes from this. It was just a lot of fun to plot out and clear my head because it's insisting that Supernatural fanfic is a good and proper way to spend my time, and I frankly have a lot of other things I'd rather be doing.)

Mostly because Sam fits the 'overprotective irritatingly clingy family of the patient' model to a t )

Welp. That was fun. I tried to include as many tropes native to each show as possible, but in the end, I decided that because it's a crossover, I had to cut out the House-centric B-plot that usually ties in to the patient of the week in order to make room for the supernatural-investigation B-plot. Hoping that they balanced out well enough.
