kasihya: (apocalyptic)

I finally caved in to curiosity and watched the first episode of Supernatural. At night, in my room by myself, with the shades up and rain outside. Initial impressions:

1. I am going to have nightmares tonight. It wasn't even all that creepy, but inescapable spirits who randomly appear no matter what are a frequent feature of my bad dreams.

2. Seriously meh-ing on the women. I hate hate hate types like Sam's girlfriend, who are around solely to care about the male lead. It's super unrealistic and irritating. Plus, clingy normal female holding back the hero from going off to have homoerotic adventures with his brother! She must diiiiiiie.

3. The two main characters seem to have the grown-up version of Taran and Neirin's relationship, only more awkward and wrong-footed. This is neither a negative nor a positive, just a thing. Could be a problem, if I was to continue watching the show and then subconsciously incorporate elements, but I think I have N&T's relationship down well enough that that won't happen.

4. Side-eying a lot of the dialogue vis a vis how natural it sounded, especially the exposition-heavy bits.

5. I am a total sucker for people who move in sync and bypass normal means of communication. Thus, that aspect delighted me.

6. I will probably continue to watch episodes here and there, when I'm in the mood for that sort of thing. I really don't want to do another Community, in which I binged so hard that for a few weeks I couldn't always tell what was real and what wasn't. (Assisted by the fact that it was set in a college, with normal, non-sci-fi characters.) Also, now I know not to watch it right before bed. I'm going to have to read Good Omens or something in order to wash away the pain.

Unrelated - partially related - I watched bits of Game of Thrones today. Mostly by looking up episode recaps, then picking out the scenes that I wanted to see. Example: Daenrys eating the horse heart, and the thing with Viserys at the end of that episode. I like Daenrys - it's not like she has any debilitating flaws like every other character, but she's been stuck in such shitty circumstances that I still want to see her kick ass anyway. It's so satisfying.

Do not want her to sit on the Iron Throne, though. She can rule over the Dothraki just fine in my book.
