Oh Lawd, A Scandal in Belgravia

Yay!
1. Sherlock and John giggling together in Buckingham Palace, Sherlock stealing an ashtray to amuse John, John telling Mycroft that no they will not stop acting like children ... basically, the first twenty minutes of the show were delightful and did a really good job of transitioning from the 'getting to know you' feel of the first season to the 'now we are in a domestic partnership' in terms of both their relationship and the show. Also, Benedict Cumberbatch wearing nothing but a sheet. I don't care how many of the show's precious few minutes were devoted to telling Sherlock to put some clothing on, it was worth it.
2. I always thought that there was such a thing as too much Mycroft. As it turns out, I was very, very wrong. The cuts of him after Moriarty sends him that text were actually great.
3. I CALLED that they'd update the King of Bohemia into a closet lesbian. I FUCKING CALLED IT.
4. Irene Adler was fantastic. I won’t talk about the problems I had with her storyline right here, but the woman herself? Hot. I was not weirded out by the part where she and Sherlock were getting all flirty with each other because guess what? My headcanon is that he is asexual/in love with John, and the writers/directors/everyone managed to deliver an asexual fascination-romance-thing between a lesbian and a man who thinks love is a waste of time but is clearly quite taken with his flatmate, without making it about sex. Power? Oh yeah. But sex, no, and my canon was preserved.
5. Also Irene Adler, when she admitted that she was playing with Sherlock the entire time. ‘Cause before that I was sort of iffy on her role, and then that, and ohhh, that was kickass. Pulse and pupil dilation aside, and yes, I have read a very good fanfiction where Sherlock uses those exact same deductive methods on John, which was a tiny bit hilarious.
6. Christmas, and Sherlock demonstrating a fantastic lack of understanding of normal people, followed by an honest attempt at being nice in a way that other people would see as being nice. And him playing Christmas songs on the violin for their Christmas party. And John being a very good boyfriend to Sherlock, while not being able to remember which of his girlfriends he is currently dating. I was sad that there would be no more Sarah, I liked her.
7. And speaking of Mrs. Hudson, which I wasn’t, but I should be, because that woman. I think that women in general fared much better in this episode than the first three. (Irene Adler outsmarting everyone, Mrs. Hudson, Molly telling Sherlock he’s a horrible person sometimes. Okay, so only three women of note because Joanne was around for five minutes total, but still.) Hiding the cell phone in her bra! I died. Sherlock repeatedly throwing a CIA agent out of a window because he hurt her was also heartwarming. (Yes. This show makes inflicting serious bodily harm on someone in cold blood into a heartwarming display of affection and loyalty.)
8. Irene Adler escaped! Yay!
10. Oh god HOW did I forget the beginning with Moriarty on the phone with Irene. It was the only viable way to end that cliffhanger. Moriarty being villainously charming and apologetic for interrupting their standoff had me in stitches.
Nay!
1. I did not like that Sherlock had to be involved in her escape. It was cute and very Doctor Who-ish, but still, meh.
2. Give me textual queerness now! I think we’ve established Sherlock’s asexuality, but despite John’s repeated assurances that he’s not gay, he’s still … meh. I don’t much care about on-screen makeouts because the idea of Sherlock Holmes snogging anyone makes my head spin a little, but affirmation of the fact that they have a relationship that isn’t just a normal friendship, that there’s more to it than that even if there’s less than a full-on sexual relationship (from the parties involved, not just Irene Adler informing John that they’re a couple whatever he thinks about his sexuality, so like if he said something along those lines). That would be good. I’m waiting for the third episode for that because that’s the story where Holmes writes Watson a love letter before he ‘dies’ so yeah.
3. I did not like that Irene Adler was actually attracted to Sherlock in the end. I would have liked for her to not get what she wanted, but not for him to stop her by using her affection against her …
Finally, not related to either of these lists, but just a general comment: they actually did have a scene in which John and Irene discussed which one of them Sherlock was in love with, and ended with both of them believing the other. Snerk.
