The Girl Who Waited
Sep. 11th, 2011 10:24 pm1. Rory and his 'I'm so, so sorry'. TEN I THOUGHT I LEFT YOU BEHIND. GO BACK TO YOUR CORNER. Aaaaaaaaaah.
2. Amy kicking ass and surviving, by herself, for thirty-six years? YES. Because I love fucked-up timestreams in all forms, and because there was no happy ending to this episode. But seriously, Amy.
3. The Doctor being really alien and weird this episode. And also ... sort of out of character? I can't really tell. Like him brushing off the fact that he just 'killed' alt-Amy and trying to make a joke about it, and Rory's just like, '... Right. WTF.' Although now that I'm thinking about it, that's another feature of Eleven - brushing off things that are obviously painful and grinning cheerfully through it all. And he was clearly pained by having to kill Amy, so I think that what struck me as odd about that was that usually, it's clear to the viewer that he is internalizing and hiding, whereas this time, it wasn't? I'm going to say that that's it.
4. Was it just me, or did the Doctor and Rory suddenly get really ... close? Physically. They spent the episode getting all up each other's personal space, sitting really close together, and catching hands. Whut. Not that I think it's weird or out of character for either of them, but it just struck me this episode.
5. My OT3 is sort of ... running out of steam. I'm really disappointed. I'm going to have to start clarifying that I ship Season 5 Amy/Rory/Doctor. I feel like the writers, having realized that they made a mistake in writing Amy as being so obsessed with the Doctor, are overcompensating for it during this season by transferring Amy's Doctor-obsession onto Rory. This episode felt a little ship-heavy, although I am still fully on-board the Amy/Rory ship. Now I need more OT3 please. Although the whole thing with River does make it weird.
6. When does Craig come back? :| I'm waiting for that episode. Especially because it looked from the previews like the Doctor and Craig were in the 'second floor' of Craig's flat, where the pseudo-TARDIS was, the one that looks like the TARDIS that the Silence was trying to build. Which would be COOL.
7. The gardens looked like Alice in Wonderland, and I heartily approve.
8. I keep expecting the Doctor to do one thing too weird for Rory and Amy, and for them to decide to leave. Like the baby episode. I thought they were going to decide that losing their child was one thing too many, and that they needed a normal life. And this episode, too, especially with Rory flipping out on the Doctor. But nope, and that also seems like a very RTD-era way to leave.
I enjoy criticising and nitpicking my shows. I also need to catch up on Torchwood, and if I have any brain left over, I want to start watching White Collar and possibly Terra Nova, the latter simply because the 10-second commercial for it that I saw on TV made it look like Vheknesk.
