Dear Yuletide Author,
Hello! Thank you so very much for volunteering to write a story for me! I’ll go into what I would like for whichever fandom you choose to write, but here are some general things I like to read: I very much enjoy found-family fics, ship fics, OT3s, and stories about friendship in general. ALL the relationships! If you’re going to write slash, I would prefer that people keep their clothes on? Domestic stories are my absolute favorite, for whatever value of domestic fits the characters. If fluff and happy things are not your cup of tea, then I would also appreciate angsty/creepy things! I’m fond of stories about characters dealing with the aftermath of some cataclysmic tragedy: the death of another character, a long imprisonment, takeover of the world by hostile aliens, you name it. Learning to deal with tragedy and picking up the pieces is good. I don't know that all of this specifically applies to my fandoms below, but that is a general idea of what I gravitate towards. I also love stories about the calm before the storm, or the eye of the storm, or watching the storm from inside the house and listening to the rain rattling the windows in silence. Metaphorically. I love love love stories with queer characters whose queerness is incidental to their identity, or stories where sexual orientation simply does not matter - as an example, this bit of meta.
Things I am not up for: explicit porn, character bashing of anyone (critique, yes; bashing, no), underage anything, non-con, dub-con, misogyny/racism/homophobia/transphobia (even if it's in-character for the character; if you can avoid it, please do, if only because it's Christmas and I don't want to have to deal with it for once); POV characters who are trans* (I'm trans, it hits way too close to home to have other people writing it which is unfortunate); May-December romances and age-play kink. Gore, blood, and violence are fine, as long as it's not sexual violence.
For the fandoms, I wrote about what elements of the stories are most interesting to me, to give you a more specific idea.
Young Wizards:
My favorite relationship in this series is Dairine and Roshaun. (My favorite relationship in any series is Dairine&Roshaun.) This is one thing I would really prefer to not be outright ship fic, because one thing that makes their relationship so great is the fact that it can't be pinned down by something as simple as romantic feelings. It’d be awesome to see your version of Dairine finding Roshaun, and how they both react to that; how their relationship develops afterwards; any interactions with either of their parents as a duo after the fact; etc.
I would also love anything to do with Ronan and Darryl. Their friendship is interesting to me, because they are from very, very different backgrounds, and that’s before you factor in the age gap. So anything with those two — hanging out, working together, interacting with each other’s worlds, would be gleefully accepted. Given the age difference, pleeeease no blatant shipping.
You shouldn’t feel obligated to put all four characters together in one story. One of the two pairs would make me happy, although if you do manage it, then kudos to you!
And if neither of these parameters rustles your creative jimmies, I’ll take anything about any of the characters, along the same lines. Basically, for this series, my primary love (aside from the aliens and magic, of course) is the characters, and the relationships they have with each other, and anything you can give me that deals with that in a thoughtful way will make me happy.
The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow:
I nominated this fandom, and I think it’s too much to hope that I’ll get matched on it, but if you want to watch it, it’s a six-minute film that I found this spring, and fell in love with instantly. (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzw8qdXCep8) For this, I just want more of the facts. Tell me about what the hell the waving man is! Who is the young woman, and how did she end up in this situation? And who is behind that camera? Backgrounds, action surrounding the scene, anything! Bonus points if you did it in the same sort of panning-around-the-scene style as the film, which I think would be super-cool but is totally not necessary.
Dragaera:
Things I like about this story/want to see more of: the Musketeers bouncing off each other the way that they do. Aerich crocheting.
Specifics: My kingdom for a Khaavren/Tazendra/Aerich AU in which Aerich and Tazendra somehow survive the fight against the Jenoine. Or which is set before that. I realize that I have a very specific request for this fandom, and if you’re getting this and you don’t want to write it, that’s okay, too. Broader version: platonic domestic aftermath of The Viscount of Adrilankha, or all of the characters communicating about why they can’t make this happen (Aerich’s “in love with Tazendra, but she’s the wrong house” kind of thing, only more so). Pel can be included, I like Pel as much as the next person, he just never came in and won my heart the way the other three did.
Ghost:
Another thing I nominated. I adore this album with a significant percentage of my heart. I would love any story you could think of based on any or all of these songs. They’re so lovely and atmospheric, and my favorite to listen to on grey, foggy days with the light fading. I’m up for any take: fluffy, creepy, sweetly creepy, quiet, sad, joyful, cheerful, etc. My favorite songs are Welcome Home and Wrapped In Piano Strings. I don’t dislike any of them, though.
King and Lionheart:
This song is one of my favorites, and the music video was so lovely and strange and I will accept anything with that storyline and that feeling as its premise. I would prefer something that is neither completely happy nor completely tragic. Other than that, run free, author!
Wicked:
I saw the play for the first time back when I was in middle school and it first came out, which means that Galinda and Elphaba was probably my first ship, and I would adore Galinda/Elphaba slash. That is all; change the events of the play as much or as little as you like.
I think that is it for me! If you already have an idea for these fandoms that I haven't mentioned, you can certainly go in that direction. These are ideas about what I would most like to see, if you do not. Thank you again and in advance. :)
